End of Financial Year Parties

Tips for planning an End of Financial Year party

An End of Financial Year (EOFY) party is a great way for you and your team to look back on what you have accomplished as a company and give yourselves a pat on the back.

In the day-to-day chaos of business operations, it can be easy for some of the year’s “wins” to fade into the background; take some time to reflect on the milestones you’ve achieved together over the last financial year. Remember, though, that an EOFY year party should be a fun celebration – try not to focus the entire event around work. Toast your successes and then move on to the business of socialising.

EOFY year parties are all about rewarding your team for their efforts, so be as generous as you can. If your budget permits, find a fun venue that offers all your requirements under one roof – for a really successful party, you’ll need catering, a private function area and entertainment. If your budget is tight, provide the drinks & catering and your guests may be willing to chip in for an activity.

The end of the financial year in Australia is June 30th, which also happens to be the coldest period on the calendar. Keep this in mind when choosing your EOFY party location – indoors is definitely advisable. You might even like to embrace the icy weather with a “Christmas in July” theme; there’s nothing better than a turkey and pudding on a freezing winter’s day.

In terms of the planning process, it’s always best to start as early as possible – you’re much more likely to get the venue and the date you want if you book well in advance. If you don’t fancy doing the planning yourself, enlist helpers or choose a venue that can take care of the organising for you.

Here are a few extra hints to get you started:

  • Involve your team in the planning. At the end of the day, the EOFY party is for them – any input they can give you will help ensure everyone has an enjoyable time. If you have a large staff, come up with a few options and put it to a vote.
  • Choose a venue that is easily accessible for the majority and close to public transport – you’ll want to ensure that everyone can get safely home.
  • If alcohol will be on offer, make sure you provide food so you don’t end up with a room full of sloshed staffers. You might consider limiting the alcohol to a shorter beverage package, or only serving beer, wine and sparkling.
  • Plan the you EOFY party around an activity – some unique entertainment is always a great ice breaker, and takes the focus off alcohol consumption.
