Melbourne Ice

Melbourne Ice was the first Victorian based team to enter the Australian Ice Hockey League, and are very pleased to call Medibank Icehouse their new home.

Ice Hockey today is a hard, fast, action-packed experience unlike any other team sport. Players wear full protective gear, and the intensity and speed of play at times is incredible.

As a result, ice hockey is a growing sport in Australia, with 4,000 current registered players, and over 13,000 registered in-line (roller blade) hockey players, many of whom progress to ice hockey.

With the best hockey talent in the State and a small number of well-credentialed imported players, Melbourne Ice is an elite team of amateurs playing at international professional level.

Since its entry into the league in 2002, Melbourne Ice has built up a strong core of players and supporters, and an increasing number of sponsors.

Several Melbourne Ice players proudly represented Australia as members of the senior men’s team that won Gold in the 2008 World Championships, taking Australia into the International Ice Hockey Federation’s Division 1. Melbourne Ice is also well represented in the U20 National Juniors and U18 National Youth Teams.

During the off-season in Australia, Ice players have been recruited to play in Canada, USA and European Leagues.

Melbourne Ice is a not-for-profit incorporated association, run by a volunteer management committee. The management group comprises individuals with high-level experience in coaching, sports management, business, government and the community sector.

With Medibank Icehouse as their new official home, Melbourne Ice will be training and playing all home games at the venue.

So look out for the team when you’re there having fun on the ice. You never know when they might drop in to shoot some goals.

Tickets to Melbourne Ice games will be available on the Medibank Icehouse website.
