Medibank Icehouse offers ice hockey programs for all ages and abilities – no matter your level, our qualified coaches will help you excel.
Ice Hockey is fast-paced, exciting, and has been a part of the Victorian sporting scene for over 100 years. 2009 marked the centenary of organised Ice Hockey in Victoria.
Over recent years, Ice Hockey Victoria (IHV) has become extremely successful on a National level, having been named Australian Champions in multiple divisions in 2009. Many of the recent Australian teams sent to international world championships featured a high number of Victorian players.
The first organised Australian ice hockey match took place in Adelaide, South Australia. The rink closed shortly after, and when it reopened in Melbourne the first international game was played between a team of sailors from the USS Baltimore Warship on the 12th of July, 1906.
During the 1909 season, the first interstate series began, with New South Wales and Victoria vying for the prestigious Goodall Cup. The Goodall Cup is one of the oldest ice hockey trophies still being awarded in the world today.
Australia joined the International Ice Hockey Federation in 1938. The country participated in the 1960 Squaw Valley Winter Olympics and attended their first World Championship in 1962.
