SKATE SCHOOL FOR TOTS & KIDS

Skate school is a learn-to-skate program that introduces kids to the basic skills of ice skating.

After starting out with the skating basics, the program encourages development by taking children through a series of basic skills levels, preparing them to go into ice hockey, figure skating, speed skating, or recreational skating.

When: in line with the Victorian School term on Saturday and Sunday mornings, and Wednesday afternoons.
Class duration: 30 min instruction, 30 minutes practice, FREE public skating the day of your lesson.
Cost: Aussie Skate program is an upfront payment, per term, based on $22 per week Eg. Term 1 (10 weeks) =$220 + a once-off $62 registration fee. Skate and helmet hire is included in the cost of the program.

Supplementary Classes and Private Lessons are also offered for well-rounded development within the Aussie Skate Program.

Upon signing up to the program, kids will receive a cool backpack as well as an instructional handbook with everything they need to know.


Term 2 Mid-Term Basic 1 (beginner) class Enrolments are now open!

  • 5 week Mid-Term Youth Basic 1 for ages 7-14 years Saturdays 9:15-9:45am and Sundays 9:00-9:30am

Cost: $110 for 5 week program starting 18th/19th May, plus once off $62 registration fee. Includes skate hire and FREE public skating following your lesson

Term 2 2013 Dates: Wednesdays 17th April - 19th June, Saturdays/Sundays 20th/21st April - 22nd/23rd June (Please note: NO classes held on the long weekend - June 8th and 9th)
Term 3 2013 Dates: Wednesdays 17th July - 18th September, Saturdays/Sundays 20th/21st July - 21st/22nd September

Cost: $198 for 9 week term (Saturday and Sunday), $220 for 10 week term (Wednesdays only)

FIRST TIME ENROLLING:
If this is you first time enrolling in Skate School at Medibank Icehouse, you will probably need to register for one of three classes:

*Please note that a once off $62 registration fee is due for all first-time enrollments, so don’t forget to add that to your shopping cart before you check out.

PRACTICE ICE:
The 30min practice sessions are on the following days and times: Saturday 8:00-8:30am and 9:00-9:30am, and Sunday 8:00-8:30am and 10:15-10:45am.

PRIVATE LESSONS:
We also offer private lessons during our practice sessions (not including 9am-9:30am Saturdays) for Skate School participants only. Private lesson bookings will be available closer to the start of term, please email programs@icehouse.com.au to be placed on the expression of interest list with your preference for lesson time, day, and coach.

SUPPLEMENTARY CLASSES

Supplementary classes are offered to all skaters with a current enrollment in a term based core class. Supplementary classes are essential for well-rounded development and all skaters are encouraged to enroll in at least one supplementary class in addition to their core class. You can find these classes grouped with your core class on the online store. Cost: Up front Term payment based on $11 per week - $99 for the 9 week term.

Stroking Classes: Stroking classes focus on the gliding movements of skating with an emphasis on extension, alignment and flexibility. These classes help skaters get more power out of their skating and experiment with some new moves and skills!

Ice Dance: Ice Dance 1/2 class teaches the basic dance steps and patterns of the Dutch Waltz and Canasta Tango. Recommended for skaters in Intermediate 1/Adult 3 levels and up.

Synchro Mini Teams: Have fun learning the basics of Synchronised skating in a small team of 6-8 skaters! Recommended for Skaters in Intermediate 1/Adult 3 levels and up.

CORE CLASSES:

Tots 1: This class is designed for children between the ages of 3 and 6 who are beginners.  We recommend that children enrolling in this class can balance and "walk" in skates on their own prior to attending their first class. If your child is new to the ice the "under 8's Ice Fun" class makes a great introduction!
Tots 2: This class is designed for children between the ages of 3 and 6 who have passed Tots 1.  
Tots 3: This class is designed for children between the ages of 3 and 6 who have passed Tots 2. 
*Please be reminded that if this is your first time enrolling, a once off $62 registration fee is due, and can also be paid online in the same transaction as your term fee.

Basic 1: This class is designed for children who are beginners between the ages of 7 and 14. 
*Please be reminded that if this is your first time enrolling, a once off $62 registration fee is due, and can also be paid online in the same transaction as your term fee.

Hockey Basic Skills: this class is designed for those who are interested in learning to skate before joining hockey school. Please note: No equipment is used during the class. Click here for more information about Hockey School.

Basic 2: this class is designed for children under the age of 15 who have passed Basic 1 or Tots 3. 

Novice 1: This class is designed for children under the age of 15 who have passed Basic 2.
In addition to this core class, the Novice 1 Stroking Class is also recommended to supplement the skills you will learn in Novice 1.  Please note that you must be enrolled in Novice 1 to enroll in any Stroking Class.  

Novice 2: This class is designed for children under the age of 15 who have passed Novice 1.
In addition to this core class, the Novice 2 Stroking Class is also recommended to supplement the skills you will learn in Novice 2. Please note that you must be enrolled in Novice 2 to enroll in any Stroking Class.

Intermediate 1: This class is designed for children under the age of 15 who have passed Novice 2.
In addition to this core class, the Intermediate 1 Stroking Class is also recommended to supplement the skills you will learn in Intermediate 1. Please note that you must be enrolled in Intermediate 1 to enroll in any Stroking Class. 

Intermediate 2: This class is designed for children under the age of 15 who have passed Intermediate 1.
In addition to this core class, the Intermediate 2 Stroking Class is also recommended to supplement the skills you will learn in Intermediate 2. Please note that you must be enrolled in Intermediate 2 to enroll in any Stroking Class. 

Youth Freeskate 1
This class is designed for children under the age of 15 who have passed Intermediate 2.
In addition to this core class, the Youth Freeskate Stroking Class is also recommended to supplement the skills you will learn in Freeskate 1. Please note that you must be enrolled in Freeskate 1 to enroll in any Stroking Class. 

Youth Freeskate 2
This class is designed for children under the age of 15 who have passed Freeskate 1.
In addition to this core class, the Youth Freeskate Stroking Class is also recommended to supplement the skills you will learn in Freeskate 2. Please note that you must be enrolled in Freeskate 2 to enroll in any Stroking class.  

Youth Freeskate 3
This class is designed for children under the age of 15 who have passed Freeskate 2.
In addition to this core class, the Youth Freeskate Stroking Class is also recommended to supplement the skills you will learn in Freeskate 3. Please note that you must be enrolled in Freeskate 3 to enroll in any Stroking class.  

Youth Freeskate 4
This class is designed for children under the age of 15 who have passed Freeskate 3.
In addition to this core class, the Youth Freeskate Stroking Class is also recommended to supplement the skills you will learn in Freeskate 4. Please note that you must be enrolled in Freeskate 4 to enroll in any Stroking Class.

Programs Refund Policy

A full or partial refund will be issued if:

  1. Medibank Icehouse is unable to provide the program that the participant originally paid for due to lack of demand, technical issues or rescheduling.
  2. Severe injury or illness prevents the participant from beginning or completing the full program.

Full or partial credit will be issued if:

  1. Minor injury or illness prevents the participant from beginning or completing the full program.
  2. The participant is not suited for the particular program they’ve registered for, and is moved to another program. In this case, the credit from the original program will be used to fund the new program.

Refund or credit will not be issued in cases in which:

  1. The participant is not interested in completing the program.
  2. The participant’s availability changes, and they are unable to complete the program.
  3. The participant engages in abusive, immoral or disruptive behavior towards Medibank Icehouse staff or visitors, and is dismissed from the venue.
